Eternity

Too many people think the road to eternity begins when they die. Nothing could be further from the truth. Eternity began the day you were conceived. At that moment you were given an eternal spirit that will never die and it was being clothed with a body that is only temporary. Then, when you enter into this physical world the journey begins. There is a time at the beginning of your life where God still has legal right to our spirit if something should happen to stop your physical body from operating. At the beginning of your life you do not have the ability to decide between what is right or wrong. One day, which is different for everyone, you reach the age of accountability where you know what is right and what is wrong. That is the day you are ready to make the first step on the road of eternity.

Measuring eternity is like trying to put a coat of paint on a thought. The two can not relate to each other. Measurement requires finite numbers while eternity is infinite. But, in order to put it into perspective, let’s say the time it takes you to walk across the European Continent represents eternity. With that in mind, your physical life on earth is represented by the first two steps you take.

Your first step is the most important one of the entire journey. In front of you is a fork in the road and that first step determines whether you choose God or reject Him. The second step determines the rewards you will reap for eternity or the degree of suffering if you reject God’s plan. Yes, there is a Heaven and a Hell. A loving and just God would have it no other way.

You may ask, “How could a loving and just God allow evil and suffering in this world?” The answer is very simple. It is called free will. If God would have wanted everyone to love Him and be with Him forever, He would have created robots who have no choice but to love Him. In truth, the word love has no meaning in a world with no other choice. With a free will we can choose to love God or ourselves. We can choose to put God first in our lives and proceed down one road or we can choose to put ourselves first and go down the other road.

It takes faith to please God. Just being a good person does not please Him. Being a good person makes you feel good and the people around you able to accept you. God wants you to believe in what He did for you. We have all sinned (breaking God’s law). There is a price to be paid for our sins. We can not pay that price by being good. If you break man’s law by robbing a bank you can not stand before the judge and say “I gave the money to the poor and helped others with the money so I should be free to go.” The judge will say, “that was nice but the penalty is life in prison, case closed.”

So the price for breaking God’s law is eternal life in prison which can never be paid because there is no end. Because God is a loving and just God, He made a way. He sent His only Son, Jesus, to earth by way of a virgin. The seed that impregnates a woman belongs to the father and is not created by the mother. Since Jesus’ Father was God He was born without a sin nature but with a free will. He chose to remain perfect and not sin. Yet he received the punishment of a sinner and allowed man to put Him to death on the cross and go to Hell for us. But, because he was unjustly in Hell he was able to walk out and return from the grave with an eternal physical body.

We now have a way to make a choice at the fork in the road. In order to choose Heaven we must accept by faith, what Jesus did for us and put God first in our lives. All other religions require you to earn your way into eternal bliss. God’s way is so much easier. I believe that is why man has such a hard time accepting God’s way because they want to be able to say “I did it my way.” God does not want you to be religious. He wants you to invite Him into your life, allowing Him to live through you so you can know Him personally. This requires a commitment of total trust of putting your life in His hands. Just believing in Him is not enough, even the devils believe in Him and look where they are. You can believe a parachute will hold you if you jump out of an airplane, but until you put it on and jump, you are not trusting it.

After you make the decision to accept or reject Jesus, your journey continues. If you reject Him, you will be a hindrance to others making the right decision. The suffering a person will experience in Hell will be a hundred times worse than anything you can imagine here on earth. In Hell there are different degrees or levels of suffering depending on what you did on that second step here on earth. There are not human words fit to describe the horror of eternity in Hell without God. It is like someone from the early 1800s trying to describe a supersonic jet fighter from the 21st century. He would not have the ability to describe it because his vocabulary would not contain the words. Jesus describes it like this, Mt 13:42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

If you accept Jesus, you then desire to do good works in order to influence others to make the same decision. Your reward in Heaven is also determined by the second step you take on earth. Trust me, just to make it into Heaven will be a very, very good thing. But, how much better would it be to hear our Lord say, “Welcome good and faithful servant let me introduce you to all those you influenced for my sake and are now enjoying eternal joy in Heaven.” Heaven is a real and physical place. It is not invisible nor do you just float on the clouds and play harps. There are buildings, streets made of pure gold, trees and rivers in Heaven. Jesus said He is going to prepare a place for each one of us. He knows exactly how to decorate your house in Heaven and the moment you accept Him, your house will be complete.

Our physical life on this earth is a blink of the eye in eternity. It all seems so insignificant yet so important because the road of eternity does not stop at the other end of Europe. It keeps going and going. Which road will you choose? When you choose to accept Jesus, life does not become all rosy and easy going. Jesus promised there would be tribulation and trials. But, He also said He would never forsake us or give us a challenge we could not handle. And with Him you may experience trouble on the outside but you are able to be at peace on the inside. That peace is what man is constantly seeking. Peace is knocking at your door and all you have to do is open it and invite Him in.

Scripture Foundation

Eternity began the day you were conceived. At that moment you were given an eternal spirit that will never die and it was being clothed with a body that is only temporary. Jer 1:4 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying: 5“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” Gen 25: 22 But the children struggled together within her; and she said, “If all is well, why am I like this?” So she went to inquire of the Lord. 23 And the Lord said to her: “Two nations are in your womb, Two peoples shall be separated from your body; One people shall be stronger than the other, And the older shall serve the younger.” 24 So when her days were fulfilled for her to give birth, indeed there were twins in her womb.

There is a time at the beginning of your life where God still has legal right to your spirit if something should happen to stop your physical body from operating. At the beginning of your life you do not have the ability to decide between what is right or wrong. Mat 18:3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Mat 19:13&14 Then little children were brought to Him that He might put His hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”

In front of you is a fork in the road and that first step determines whether you choose God or reject Him. Mat 7:13 “You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose the easy way. 14 But the gateway to life is small, and the road is narrow, and only a few ever find it.
The second step determines the rewards you will reap for eternity or the degree of suffering if you reject God’s plan. Yes, there is a Heaven and a Hell. A loving and just God would have it no other way. Rev 22:12 “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.

It takes faith to please God. Just being a good person does not please Him. Being a good person makes you feel good and the people around you able to accept you. Jam 2:18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. Heb 11:6 So, you see, it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that there is a God and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9not of works, lest anyone should boast.

There is a price to be paid for our sins. Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. He sent His only Son, Jesus, to earth by way of a virgin.

The seed that impregnates a woman belongs to the father and is not created by the mother. Since Jesus’ Father was God He was born without a sin nature but with a free will. Mat1:35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.”John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Yet he received the punishment of a sinner and allowed man to put Him to death on the cross and go to Hell for us. But, because he was unjustly in Hell he was able to walk out and return from the grave with an eternal physical body. Acts 2:23 “Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death; 24“whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it. 25“For David says concerning Him: ‘I foresaw the Lord always before my face, For He is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken. 26 Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad; Moreover my flesh also will rest in hope. 27 For You will not leave my soul in Hades, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. 28 You have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of joy in Your presence.’ 29“Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30“Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne, 31“he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption. 32“This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses. Rom 5:12 When Adam sinned, sin entered the entire human race. His sin spread death throughout all the world, so everything began to grow old and die, for all sinned. 13 We know that it was Adam’s sin that caused this because although, of course, people were sinning from the time of Adam until Moses, God did not in those days judge them guilty of death for breaking his laws—because he had not yet given his laws to them nor told them what he wanted them to do. 14 So when their bodies died it was not for their own sins since they themselves had never disobeyed God’s special law against eating the forbidden fruit, as Adam had. What a contrast between Adam and Christ who was yet to come! 15 And what a difference between man’s sin and God’s forgiveness! For this one man, Adam, brought death to many through his sin. But this one man, Jesus Christ, brought forgiveness to many through God’s mercy. 16 Adam’s one sin brought the penalty of death to many, while Christ freely takes away many sins and gives glorious life instead. 17 The sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to be king over all, but all who will take God’s gift of forgiveness and acquittal are kings of life because of this one man, Jesus Christ. 18 Yes, Adam’s sin brought punishment to all, but Christ’s righteousness makes men right with God, so that they can live. 19 Adam caused many to be sinners because he disobeyed God, and Christ caused many to be made acceptable to God because he obeyed.

This requires a commitment of total trust of putting your life in His hands. Just believing in Him is not enough, even the devils believe in Him and look where they are. Rom 10:10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Jam 2:19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! Rom 1:17 This Good News tells us that God makes us ready for heaven—makes us right in God’s sight—when we put our faith and trust in Christ to save us. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scripture says it, “The man who finds life will find it through trusting God.”

In Hell there are different degrees or levels of suffering depending on what you did on that second step here on earth. Mat 10:13 “Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city! Mat 11:23 “And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades; for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. 24 “But I say to you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you.”

Your reward in Heaven is also determined by the second step you take on earth. Rev 22:12 “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work”.

Heaven is a real and physical place. It is not invisible nor do you just float on the clouds and play harps. There are buildings, streets made of pure gold, trees and rivers in Heaven. Jesus said He is going to prepare a place for each one of us. John 14:1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 “In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. Rev 21:21 The twelve gates were twelve pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass. Rev 22:1 And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. 2 In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. Rev 21:16 The city is laid out as a square; its length is as great as its breadth. And he measured the city with the reed: twelve thousand furlongs. Its length, breadth, and height are equal. 17 Then he measured its wall: one hundred and forty-four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of an angel. 18 The construction of its wall was of jasper; and the city was pure gold, like clear glass. 19 The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of precious stones: the first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, 20 the fifth sardonyx, the sixth sardius, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. 21 The twelve gates were twelve pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.

Peace is knocking at your door and all you have to do is open it and invite Him in.
Rev 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. 21 “To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
